The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is the oldest of the four Royal Boroughs of London and sits to the Southwest of London, with a population of around 168,000. The borough was formed like many others in 1965, with the merger of the Municipal boroughs of Kingston-upon-Thames, Surbiton and Malden and Coombe. Sitting as it does just south the Thames, Kingston has a long and illustrious history stretching back to Roman times. Many Anglo Saxon kings had their coronations on teh site of All Saints Church in the centre of town, including Ethelred the Unready. Apart from the church there are many other architectural gems in Kington, many of which are in the ancient Market Place, from a 15c Tudor house to the Druid’s Head pub, a building constructed in the early 16c. The borough is home to Richmond Park, one of the oldest Parks in Greater London.
Plande works right across the borough from Tudor, Canberry and Coombe Hill in the North, through Norbiton, Berrylands and Old Malden to Tolworth & Hook Rise and Chessington in the south.
Kingston upon Thames London Borough Council is responsible for processing planning permission, planning applications and appeals in the area and is situated at The Guildhall, High Street Surrey KT1 1EU.
