Salford sits to the west of Manchester over the river Irwell which forms its boundary. The City of Salford is governed from Swinton which lies towards the M60 in the west of the borough. It has a long and interesting history, sitting as it does at the end of the Manchester ship canal. The waterway, built in 1894 propelled Salford to one of the most important inland ports in the world, bringing raw cotton in from the Americas, effectively choking off that city in a major coup for merchants in the area. The regeneration of Salford during the late twentieth century was an important shift in the gentrification of one of the most deprived districts in the UK, particularly the old Salford Docks and its surrounding area.

It’s architecture echoes that of its neighbour featuring a large selection of 18th and 19th century buildings built on the back of the boom in textiles in the area. These include a number of converted mills and standout churches such as Sacred Trinity and St Philips, with its unusual domed spire.

Salford is known for having the highest concentration of towers over 100 metre in the UK outside of the capitol with 19 at the beginning of 2021. The city has more than 230 listed building with Ordsall House being the oldest, dating back to the early part of the 16th century.

Plande works right across the borough as experienced  planning consultants across all of the major towns and villages including Boothstown and Ellenbrook, Eccles, Irlam, Pendleton, Walkden and Worsley.
