The owners of this bespoke architecturally designed 1970’s single storey dwelling wished to create level access to their property. The house sat on a sloping site with the lower level driveway and garage originally connected to the house via a flight of external steps, however a degenerative heath condition meant that our client required step free access to the house to cater for their future needs. The substantial level changes, of around one storey, across the site necessitated the installation of a platform lift, along with the rebuilding of the garage to allow space for wheelchair access, storage, and charging facilities. Although located in a Conservation Area and adjacent to a listed structure, the contemporary front extension to the property was in keeping with host dwelling and a robust justification, including a Heritage statement was included within the application which was approved by delegated powers.
