The existing site comprised a large detached historic house with a range of outbuildings. One of these outbuilings was a one and half storey building which contained a garage and workshop to the ground floor and a small room above. Historically it was understood that this was used as the chauffeurs cottage.
Our clients now seeked to refurbish the building and convert the whole structure into annexe living accommodation over two floors. The overall total floor area was large enough to be seen as a separate dwelling however the application was carefully produced to illustrate and justify this was not the intention.
The application was approved with a condition limiting the use of the building to ancillary accommodation for the main dwelling without specifically requiring only family members or relatives being able to live in the property.
