The existing building was a substantial property forming the main sorting office for the Royal Mail, with
the front section of the building previously used as the main Town Centre Post Office. The property was located on the main High Street, in a Conservation Area, however, it had been vacant more many years.
Our clients sought permission to convert the building into a Church which would help to reintroduce activity into that part of the high street. The justification for a sustainable and viable use that would also provide a community hub and encourage people to the area was balanced against the perceived issues of an intensification of use, additional vehicular traffic, and noise.
The property itself was identified as having a negative contribution to the Conservation Area and as such the proposed use would not have a material harm to the heritage asset.
