As part of a wider policy to improve the tourism sector and local economy as a whole a section of open public land which was considered surplus to requirements was deemed suitable for potential development.
Working closely with the client and their occupier for the building, including their in-house design team, an appropriate design, and planning strategy was developed for the site.
Expecting a range of local opposition to the loss of the open space, as well as local businesses concerned about the loss of revenue from a national competitor a detailed application was submitted to the Council addressing the various issues such as highways safety, impact on neighbouring amenity etc.
