The existing Police Station had become surplus to requirements. Our client, a charity, sought to create a ground floor community facility based on an identified need within the area.
The proposals sought permission for an Education Centre, which would provide after school studies for children between the age of six to twelve years old, daily prayers and youth programmes focusing on
topics such as drugs, knife and gang crime. The Education Centre was also to provide lunch clubs for the elderly, education classes for women and charitable food distribution.
The site was located within a District Centre and within a special character area and was located opposite a primary shopping area and secondary retail frontage. Our clients sought opening hours until 11:00 pm which was successfully justified as acceptable even though there were residential properties above and adjacent.
