The small single-storey workshop sat as an anomaly within the street scene, on a site only slightly bigger than it’s own footprint. The building was heavily overlooked from properties on three sides and any additional volume was likely to cause harm to the neighbouring residential properties.
In the development of proposals, the lack of external amenity space and small floor space was such that a residential use was unlikely to ever receive approval. A commercial Office development was therefore proposed which sought to create a contemporary business space for a small local company.
The external design of the building sought to complement the surrounding Victorian properties with matching brick and a steeper pitched, tiled roof to reduce the visual impact of the larger volume.
