Upwards extension to detached bungalow on corner plot

Overview

Our clients approached us to add a further living and bedroom accommodation to their 1930s detached bungalow. While the property sat on a large corner plot the restrictive local supplementary guidance document, as well as the clients, desire to protect as much of their garden as possible, one solution was to consider an additional storey to the property, which would help create additional bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor, but also free up space on the ground floor to enable additional living space.

Conscious of any additional height often being difficult to achieve, a careful strategy, detailed justification and robust submission allowed the local Planning Authority to understand the scheme and how it could be approved.

Planning approval was granted for a substantial extension to the bungalow increasing the total floor area of the house by over two-thirds.
